** CONSTRUCTION SEASON ------------------------------------------------------------
** Harrison Road to Fully Close at Red Cedar Bridge Starting June 9 ------------------------------------------------------------
In collaboration with Michigan State University, the City will fully close Harrison Road over the Red Cedar River, which is located between Michigan Avenue and Kalamazoo Street, beginning Monday, June 9. The project is expected to be completed, and the road reopened to traffic, on Friday, Aug. 22. Local traffic will be maintained to the Kellogg Center and the Brody Residential Complex from Michigan Avenue.
Bridge deck replacement work began on the Harrison Road bridge on May 5, with traffic being maintained in both directions on the eastern half of the bridge. Critical structural issues were recently discovered with the high-pressure steam system near the bridge deck that require emergency repair. To accomplish this unexpected work and maintain the reopening timeline, the bridge deck construction must be shifted to the eastern half of the bridge and the road closed.
“Both the City and MSU realize that this closure will be disruptive to the traveling public, and we feel badly for the inconvenience that it may cause them,” said East Lansing Director of Public Works and Environmental Services Ron Lacasse. “Unfortunately, this critical work must be completed now. If it is not, then the project timeline will be extended into the fall when MSU students have returned to the area and the MSU football season has started, which will greatly increase traffic congestion.”
Signage will be posted to detour traffic through MSU’s campus from Kalamazoo Street, Beal Street and Michigan Avenue in both directions. A pedestrian detour will also be provided using the Kellogg Center’s property. ------------------------- Also starting on Monday, June 9: A gas main project at the intersection of Hagadorn and Haslett roads. There will be right lane closures for motorists as well as sidewalk closures on the east side of Hagadorn Road. Work is expected to take about four weeks, weather permitting. LAKE LANSING ROAD continues to be reduced to one lane headed west, and the adjoining sidewalk is closed, for a Consumers Energy gas main installation project. Construction will move eastward from Coolidge Road toward Abbot Road with completion expected at the end of June.
U.S. 127 at TROWBRIDGE ROAD: The highway is in its current configuration until mid-June. View lane closures here (https://mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/map?constZone=true&lat=42.730255858482025&lon=-84.51968310730732&zoom=12) , including one lane of southbound U.S. 127 from Forest Road to Jolly Road which will be closed for construction of a median crossover, beginning today and continuing until Wednesday, June 18.
LINDEN STREET between Abbot Road and Park Lane has reopened! The repairs to the roof of City Hall are complete.
