** Summer Returns with Albert EL Fresco Reopening
------------------------------------------------------------
East Lansing Mayor George Brookover officially opened Albert EL Fresco last night, kicking off the first Thursday Game Night in downtown!

On stage at Ann Street Plaza were the Dangling Participles, a Lansing-area indie folk band, who played from 5:30-7 p.m. They were followed by the Andrew Brown Sound, a group of Michigan State University jazz students, from 7-8:30 p.m.

The event also featured a variety of games and activities, including ping pong, cornhole, giant Chess and an inflatable football game. Community members who take a survey are eligible for this year's t-shirt and other giveaways. The East Lansing Public Library also had a table to provide information.

Upcoming events happening downtown include the East Lansing Art Festival next weekend; GLAM Jam Summer Kickoff on June 8; East Lansing PRIDE on June 14 and the Summer Solstice Jazz Festival June 20-21. ** Recap: FY2026 Preliminary Budget Town Hall
------------------------------------------------------------
East Lansing City Manager Robert Belleman, Chief Financial Officer Audrey Kincade and Treasurer Andrea Smith presented on the Fiscal Year 2026 preliminary budget at a town hall on Wednesday, May 7.

Among the topics addressed at the town hall were the FY2026 budget and program of services, a general fund overview, options in the general fund deficit reduction plan, the City income tax, property tax distributions and information about American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) projects.

Community members are encouraged to attend meetings, ask questions and provide feedback through public comment and correspondence to City Council.

WHAT'S NEXT?
* May 13: Public hearings on the preliminary budget and tax rate.
* May 27: Adoption of the FY2026 budget, tax rate and fee schedule.


** City Celebrates Public Service Recognition Week

The East Lansing City Council approved a resolution recognizing the dedication, hard work and commitment of the City's nearly 500 full-time, part-time and contingent employees as part of Public Service Recognition Week from May 5-9. ** Construction Updates: Getting Around Town

* Water Service Material Surveys: Water supplies will NOT be affected. Contractors from M.L. Chartier will be performing excavations in the right-of-way at properties around the City. The purpose of this work is to identify the water service line material type, as required by the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, ensuring that the lines are NOT lead or galvanized steel. Department of Public Works (DPW) staff have begun putting door hangers at properties that will be part of this survey. Questions? Call DPW (517) 337-9459.

* HARRISON ROAD BRIDGE ***Traffic maintained in both directions*** Motorists are advised that traffic has been reduced from two lanes to one lane in each direction. The project is being done to repair the roadway between Kalamazoo Street and the Kellogg Center. Traffic on Kalamazoo Street will NOT be affected. This project is expected to be completed by mid-August before MSU students return to campus.

* Albert EL Fresco in downtown East Lansing has reopened. A portion of Albert Avenue is closed through mid-August; however, access to all downtown parking garages has been maintained. * LAKE LANSING ROAD: A Consumers Energy gas main installation project began this past Monday (April 28). Motorists may experience delays due to lane closures from Coolidge Road to Abbot Road. Work is expected to continue through the end of June.

** Supporting Trowbridge Road During Construction

Blue Owl Coffee, 1034 Trowbridge Road + Mighty Uke Day 15
The East Lansing location of local favorite, Blue Owl Coffee, is participating in this weekend's Mighty Uke Day festivities. The coffee shop will be the site of a flash mob at 12:30 p.m. today (Friday, May 9) and a wake up mini concert will take place there tomorrow morning (Saturday, May 10) at 9 a.m. Stop in for a nonalcoholic coffee cocktail, like the Ol' Blue, a cold brew with bourbon honey, fresh orange, cherry and bitters. ** Restaurant Week Includes Several EL Spots
