Property taxes are 100% local with 43% of the total property taxes paid supporting East Lansing directly. Of this amount, the City receives 23% to its general fund and 3% to solid waste and recycling services. The East Lansing Public Library receives another 4%. The final 13% goes to East Lansing Public Schools.
The remainder, which accounts for 57% of the total property tax paid in, goes toward Ingham County, the Ingham Intermediate School District, the State Education Tax, Lansing Community College, CATA and the Capital Region International Airport.
More information about how to submit property tax payments can be found here (https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2257) (because no one loves late fees).

LOVE A LONG WEEKEND Please be advised that City offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 17 in observance of Presidents Day. This includes City Hall, 54-B District Court, Department of Public Works (including no bulky item collection), the East Lansing Public Library and the Prime Time Seniors Program. It does NOT include the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, which will have regular hours from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. on that date. https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/340/Snow-Removal-Ordinance LOVE A WINTER WONDERLAND Community members should be aware of their responsibilities to clear snow and ice after a winter storm. For snow that accumulates after noon, property owners/residents have until midnight the next day to clear the snow. Snow that accumulates before noon must be cleared by midnight on the same day. Ice should be cleared or an abrasive, such as salt, sand, etc., applied within 12 hours of ice formation.
Additionally, a state law passed last summer requires drivers to stay 200 feet, or approximately 13.3 car lengths, behind a snow plow. Failing to do so could result in a $100 ticket. Other important items to keep in mind when driving: * Plow trucks typically travel between 25-35 mph. Make sure to allow enough time and space to safely stop or slow down. * Salt is released from the back of a plow truck. If a vehicle is too close to a plow truck, salt and other debris thrown into the air by the plow could strike a vehicle or otherwise obstruct visibility. * Do not assume that the driver of a plow truck can see a vehicle behind it. Plow trucks have large blind spots and a driver’s field of vision is very limited. Drivers are also focused on what is in front of them and not necessarily what is behind them. * It is illegal to pass a plow truck on the right. Plows push snow to the right, toward the road shoulder, making a pass to the right very dangerous for anyone attempting to do so. * Some plow trucks may have a wing plow attached, which extends 6-8 feet to the right of the truck and may be hard to see. * If a snowplow is stationary on the side of the road, slow down to at least 10 mph under the speed limit and allow as much room as possible when passing. A snowplow is considered an authorized vehicle for purposes of Michigan’s Move Over law, and violating the law can result in penalties and fines.
