** Post-Holiday Cleanup: Pickups & Drop-offs
------------------------------------------------------------

Live-cut Christmas trees will be collected curbside through Friday, Jan. 12. If the tree is taller than 6 feet, it should be cut in half. Ornaments, lights and tree stands should be completely removed. Do not place trees in bags.

Community members may also drop off their live-cut trees at the following locations around the City to be chipped and used as mulch in City parks or donated for use as rabbit habitats:
* Patriarche Park – parking lot on Alton Road
* Emerson Park – Arbor Drive entrance
* Fine Park – parking lot at Winchester Drive
* Valley Court Park – south of Valley Court Community Center
* White Memorial Park - parking lot at Pebblebrook Lane

Additionally, both working and nonworking holiday lights can be dropped off inside the entrance at the Department of Public Works, 1800 E. State Road during the hours the building is open, through Friday, Jan. 12.

A bonus recycling day will be offered on Monday, Jan. 8 throughout the City. Carts should be wheeled to the curb by 7:30 a.m. Learn more about what goes where here (https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/1635/Recycling-Collection) .

** City Parks to Close Intermittently for Wildlife Management This Winter
------------------------------------------------------------

By the authority granted pursuant to Sec. 28-3 of the Code of the City of East Lansing, the City Manager establishes different closing hours for City parks from Jan. 1-March 31, 2024 for wildlife management.

City parks shall be subject to closure, when posted, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. When closed during the above dates and hours, City park entrances, including parking lots and pedestrian paths, shall be posted and barricaded to notify the public of the closure. It shall be unlawful for any person, except those persons authorized by the City Manager for wildlife management, to enter, cross through or remain within any park during any such closure.

Biologists from the United States Department of Agriculture who are highly trained in the use of firearms will be conducting a deer removal operation under a cooperative service agreement with the City and a permit from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The removal of a portion of the deer population is professional, safe and highly managed.

The City’s deer removal operation is being conducted to address deer overpopulation in the East Lansing community, which has resulted in vehicle/deer crashes, public health concerns, damage to landscaping and a disruption to the ecological balance of natural areas. This will be the fourth year of the deer removal operation.

Notification letters have been mailed to residents living near the parks where the deer removal operation will take place.

For more information about the City’s deer removal operations, visit www.cityofeastlansing.com/deer (https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/231/Deer-Management) .
