** First Chance to Welcome Fall's Newest Residents

Michigan State University will host
Admitted Student Day on Saturday, April 5 for incoming MSU students and their families to explore campus. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. and includes a resource fair, kick-off event and over 100 sessions and tours to expose new Spartans to their future home-away-from-home. Please give them a friendly welcome as they navigate the community!

** Celebrating Curiosity with MSU's Science Festival
------------------------------------------------------------
Michigan State University's monthlong Science Festival began this week and
STEAM Expo Days will be held this weekend from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6. The FREE festival for learners of all ages will be held at the STEM Teaching and Learning Facility on MSU's campus. There will be over 100 hands-on activities, presentations and demonstrations. Some highlights include:

* Are Cats Taking Over the World? How You Can Help
* Butterfly Bonanza: The Ecology and Conservation of Michigan's Well-Loved Insects

** First No-Fee Yard Waste Collection is Monday
------------------------------------------------------------
Yard waste, including leaves, plant materials, grass clippings and brush/limbs, can be disposed of at no charge on two Mondays each spring and fall. On these special collection dates, advanced requests and City stickers (https://cityofeastlansing.com/279/Carts-Bags-Sticker-Purchases) are not required. The first no-fee yard waste collection for properties
west of Abbot Road will be this Monday, April 7. Properties east of Abbot Road will have their no-fee yard waste collection the following Monday, April 14. There will be no regular yard waste collection west of Abbot Road when no-fee yard waste collection is taking place east of Abbot Road, and vice versa.
Yard waste should be set at the curb no earlier than 8 p.m. the night before collection and no later than 7:30 a.m. on the day of collection. Additionally, please remember these containment guidelines:
* Contained in a rigid, plastic container (no more than 32 gallons) or a paper bag. Must not weigh more than 40 pounds.
* Bundled with string or twine. Bundles may not be more than 4 feet long and 1 foot in diameter. Individual limbs must be 4 inches in diameter or less. Must not weigh more than 40 pounds.

** Calling All Library Lovers: Celebrate with ELPL

To kick off National Library Week, the East Lansing Public Library (ELPL) will host a very special author visit on Monday, April 7 from 7-8:30 p.m. Curtis Chin is the author of the award-winning memoir, "Everything I Learned, I Learned at a Chinese Restaurant" which is a 2024 Michigan Notable Book selection. The book is about Chin's experiences growing up Asian-American in Detroit, coming out in a working-class immigrant community and being a first generation college student. The first 50 attendees will receive a FREE copy of the book. No registration required!

CDBG project to update sidewalk crossings on John R. begins Monday, April 7. No full street closures are expected.
Albert Avenue between Orchard and Kedzie streets will have a full closure starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 7. This will only be a one-day closure.
There will be a westbound lane closure on Albert Avenue at Grove Street with flaggers to keep traffic moving in both directions on Tuesday, April 8.
