Community members in need will be able to pick up a coat or warm jacket during the Faith & Blue Community Coat Drive on Friday, Oct. 6 from 4-8 p.m. at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC), 819 Abbot Road. There will also be boxed lunches available for those who need it and a list of helpful community resources.

Community members are asked to NOT bring their donations to the ELHCC on Oct. 6. Instead, donations should be dropped off at the ELPD, 409 Park Lane or one of the following faith-based project partners (https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1958) by Wednesday, Oct. 4.

https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/2386/Youth-Commission

The East Lansing City Council recently passed Ordinance 1524 to create the Youth Commission, a governing body that will be made up of East Lansing teens who have an interest in shaping the future of the City.

The Youth Commission is now seeking applications from among the residents and students of East Lansing who are between the ages of 14 and 18 to serve on the new commission. The Youth Commission will consist of nine voting members, each of whom will serve a one-year term. The new commission, once established, will meet monthly.

“Whenever I have the privilege of working with the young people of East Lansing, I'm always impressed by how deeply they're thinking about the world and their place in it,” East Lansing Mayor Pro Tem Jessy Gregg said. “I think that the best thing government can do is govern for a better future, so I am excited that we've created this opportunity to create a voice for our residents who are going to live in that future.”

Visit www.cityofeastlansing.com/youthcommission (https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/2386/Mayors-Youth-Commission) to access the application form.

** Downtown Display Features Art from The CORE at MSU's Broad Art Museum
------------------------------------------------------------

Community members are invited to check out the latest rotating art display in downtown East Lansing, which features images from the Michigan State University (MSU) Broad Art Museum’s permanent collection.

The rotating art display was established by the City’s Downtown Development Authority in 2021 as an open-air public space. It includes four double-sided exhibit panels, each measuring 4’x6’, along the 400 block of Albert Avenue on the northside of the Division Street Parking Garage.

Installed earlier this month, the current exhibit features a medley of artwork from the MSU Broad Art Museum’s new project, The Center for Object Research and Engagement (The CORE), which opens on Nov. 10.
