** Wreath Laying Ceremony for East Lansing's Veterans
------------------------------------------------------------
On Wednesday, Nov. 8 the City of East Lansing and the Lansing-based 1st Battalion, 24th Marines Charlie Company laid wreaths at the Medal of Honor Memorial and Veterans Monument, located on the main entry grounds of the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC), 819 Abbot Road. The wreath laying ceremony was followed by a welcome from East Lansing City Manager Robert Belleman, remarks by Brigadier General Scott E. House and a rendition of "We Honor You" by the EL Singers inside the ELHCC due to the inclement weather outdoors.

The ceremony was extra special because East Lansing Director of Department of Public Works Scott House was recently promoted to Brigadier General in a special ceremony at the Michigan National Guard's Joint Force Headquarters in Lansing. Learn more about House's military service here (https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1985) .

City offices are closed today (Friday, Nov. 10) in observance of Veterans Day. This includes City Hall, 54-B District Court, the Prime Time Seniors Program, the Department of Public Works and the East Lansing Public Library. The East Lansing Hannah Community Center, however, is open. For information about how the closure affects trash, yard waste and bulky item pickup, click here (https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1990) .

** City Clerk's Early Voting Center and Election Results
------------------------------------------------------------

The City Clerk’s Office hosted an Early Voting Center (EVC) at the East Lansing Public Library, 950 Abbot Road from Monday, Oct. 30 through Saturday, Nov. 4 for this year's election. It was a pilot project in advance of next year's three elections: Presidential Primary (Feb. 27), State Primary (Aug. 6) and General Election (Nov. 5).

Ballots from overseas and military voters must be given six days from the date of the election to be received and counted before the election can be certified; however, it looks like Kerry Ebersole Singh, Mark Meadows and Erik Altmann have been elected to the East Lansing City Council, each for a four-year term.

Three ballot initiatives were also decided in this election. The first two -- increasing the size of City Council from five to seven members and changing the date that Council is sworn in to Jan. 1 -- were both defeated. Ranked choice voting was approved; however, it is not currently legal at the state level, so it cannot be implemented.

** Northern Tail Dog Park Closing for the Winter Season
------------------------------------------------------------
Community members and their dogs are advised that the City of East Lansing’s Northern Tail Dog Park, 6400 Abbot Road will close for the winter season on Thursday, Nov. 30. The park will re-open again in the spring. The Northern Tail Dog Park closes for the winter season to protect park grounds from wear and tear. Significant damage has occurred in previous winter seasons due to park use during freeze-thaw periods and periods when the soil was wet and muddy. The City completed extensive work to improve drainage and restore grass at the dog park in previous years. ** Lake Lansing Road Closure Begins Monday, Nov. 13
------------------------------------------------------------
Motorists are advised that beginning Monday, Nov. 13 Lake Lansing Road will be closed to traffic between Porter and Gibson avenues. The road closure will allow crews to replace the pavement over a utility repair. During the road closure, traffic will be detoured to Hagadorn Road, Saginaw Highway and Abbot Road. Access to local businesses and residences will be maintained to the greatest extent possible; however, motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes and anticipate delays. The roadway is currently expected to reopen to traffic on Friday, Nov. 17.
