** Highlights from the Jan. 16 Meeting ------------------------------------------------------------ The East Lansing City Council met on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC) for a discussion-only meeting. During communications from Councilmembers, East Lansing City Councilmember Dana Watson thanked the road crews from the Department of Public Works (DPW) for their efforts to clean up the City after the weekend's snow storm. East Lansing City Councilmember Mark Meadows thanked the members of the City's new Youth Commission, who recently held their first meeting. East Lansing City Mayor Pro Tem Kerry Ebersole Singh and East Lansing Mayor George Brookover both recognized East Lansing Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Organizational Culture Elaine Hardy for her efforts in putting together the 38th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan Day of Celebration on Monday, Jan. 15 with keynote speaker Ruby Bridges.

** 6.2 Update on the City's Efforts to Comply with the State's Lead and Copper Rule Requirements ------------------------------------------------------------ Watch this part of the meeting (https://youtu.be/DlT-pfebg94?t=13091) . The Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act requires a final comprehensive inventory by Oct. 16, 2024. The water supply is also responsible to pay for the replacement of all water services that contain galvanized steel or lead material between the City’s water main and the water meter inside the home regardless of ownership. In order to meet these requirements, the City has been collecting water service material data inside the basement of buildings, where it enters through the foundation wall and by hydro excavating on both sides of the water service valve typically located adjacent to the public sidewalk. Staff has also been replacing impacted water services using both contractors and City maintenance crews.
