TUESDAY: City Council will be voting on the Fiscal Year 2026 budget at the Tuesday, May 27 regular Council meeting. ** Council Recap: Discussion Only Meeting
------------------------------------------------------------

The East Lansing City Council met on Tuesday, May 20 for a discussion only meeting. The following topics were on the agenda:
* Traffic calming and other local traffic concerns.
* Proposed Ordinance 1538 to establish a new chapter on rental housing regulations.
* Proposed Ordinance 1545 to amend the definition of family in the zoning chapter of the City's Code of Ordinances.
* Ordinance 1549 and noise issues were deferred to the next discussion only meeting.

** Supporting Trowbridge Road During Construction

J&H Trowbridge Marathon, 1198 S. Harrison Road
Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start of summer and many people will be headed "up north" for the first long weekend of this sweetest of seasons. Luckily for East Lansing motorists, the 127 North ramp at Trowbridge Road is open, and the J&H Trowbridge Marathon is a good first stop to gas up and purchase a variety of snacks for the trip. Open 6 a.m. to midnight daily, they even have a drive-through!

The businesses on Trowbridge Road have felt the pinch of construction over the past year. Let's show support to these local businesses!


** Getting Around Town: Construction
------------------------------------------------------------
* HARRISON ROAD: Work on the bridge deck over the Red Cedar River between Kalamazoo Street and the Kellogg Center continues. Traffic is maintained in both directions. Completion is expected by mid-August.
* LINDEN STREET between Abbot Road and Park Lane is closed through the first week in June for repairs to the roof of City Hall.
* ALBERT AVENUE from Grove Street to M.A.C. Avenue is closed through Aug. 11 for Albert EL Fresco.
* LAKE LANSING ROAD is reduced to one lane headed west, and the adjoining sidewalk is closed, for a Consumers Energy gas main installation project. Construction will move eastward from Coolidge Road toward Abbot Road with completion expected at the end of June.

** Inaugural Jim Potchen Memorial Golf Scramble for the Radiology Healing Gardens
------------------------------------------------------------

The late Dr. Jim Potchen, an MSU alum who served as the Department of Radiology chair for more than 30 years, established the Radiology Healing Gardens (https://radiology.msu.edu/about/radiology-healing-gardens) on campus in 2000. With its flowers, birds and waterfalls, this hidden treasure on Service Road is open to all community members. To ensure the long-term preservation of the gardens, the MSU Department of Radiology is working to establish an endowment. They will host a golf scramble on Friday, July 11 at Forest Akers West Championship Course.
