** Albert EL Fresco to Make its Return to Downtown East Lansing this May
------------------------------------------------------------

Community members are advised that the popular Albert EL Fresco pedestrian-friendly area will be making its return to downtown East Lansing’s Albert Avenue this May.

Both lanes of Albert Avenue, from just east of the Albert Avenue Garage’s entry/exit to M.A.C. Avenue, will be closed to traffic beginning Tuesday, May 10 to accommodate the space setup, with the grand reopening taking place on Thursday, May 12.

The Albert EL Fresco area will feature various types of seating, tables, shade amenities, hammocks, decorative lighting and outdoor games, including cornhole, Giant Chess and Giant Connect 4. There will also be a variety of programming hosted throughout the summer in the space, including live music, outdoor yoga, game nights and more. Additionally, a new Take-Out-Tuesdays program will launch this summer, in which community members will be encouraged to grab take-out from their favorite downtown business and enjoy it in the Albert EL Fresco space on Tuesdays for a chance to win weekly prizes, including DNA eGift Cards

More details on how to participate in this fun, new program will be announced soon.

“We are excited to bring back the Albert EL Fresco this summer and we encourage community members to come down and check it out,” said East Lansing Community & Economic Development Administrator Adam Cummins. “While out and about, we also encourage community members to support the many local businesses in downtown East Lansing and participate in our new Take-Out-Tuesdays program.”

Community members are reminded that open alcohol is not permitted in the Albert EL Fresco space, but food and alcohol can be enjoyed at the approved outdoor dining areas operated by adjacent restaurants. Take-out food and non-alcoholic drinks can be enjoyed in the space. ** Updating Masking Requirements for East Lansing Public Meetings
------------------------------------------------------------

The City of East Lansing announced earlier this week that face masks would no longer be required at City of East Lansing public meetings as of Tuesday, April 5, including meetings of the East Lansing City Council and East Lansing’s boards and commissions. People may choose to mask at any time.

It was previously announced that face masks would no longer be required of visitors and employees inside City of East Lansing buildings as of March 14, 2022, with some exceptions.

The exceptions that remain in place for visitors, where face masks continue to be required, include the remaining performance of the 2022 Children’s Cultural Concert Series and the School Age Programs offered by the East Lansing Department of Parks, Recreation & Arts, including Before & After School and Break Care. Additionally, face mask requirements remain in place for the East Lansing Public Library’s children’s programs and events.

For up-to-date COVID-19 guidance, visit https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus or https://www.cdc.gov/.

** Spring Yard Waste Collection in East Lansing
------------------------------------------------------------

Community members are reminded that the City of East Lansing's yard waste collection program resumed for the 2022 growing seasons on Monday, April 4.

Regular yard waste collection is offered on Mondays (excluding holidays and no-fee days) to East Lansing residents throughout the spring, summer and fall. Prior collection requests (online or by phone) and City bags/stickers are required for regular yard waste collection, and there are several yard waste guidelines that need to be followed. Community members can learn more by checking out the City's Yard Waste Collection webpage (https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/yardwaste) .

No-fee yard waste collection days will also be offered this spring and fall. On these days, community members do not need to make a prior collection request or use City bags/stickers, but all other guidelines do apply. Spring no-fee dates are listed below:

East Side (homes east of Abbot Road): April 18 & May 9
West Side (homes west of Abbot Road): April 25 & May 16

Community members should note that regular yard waste collection is not offered on no-fee days, meaning there will be no regular yard waste collection on the City's west side when no-fee yard waste collection is taking place on the east side, and vice versa.

For additional information about the City's yard waste collection program, including all yard waste guidelines, an online collection request form for regular yard waste collection and details on how to purchase City yard waste stickers and bags, visit the Yard Waste Collection webpage (https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/yardwaste) .
